PREP+AFTER CARE

SKIN PREP

Follow the instructions below to maximize the quality and length of your tan!

Leading up to Appointment

  • The week leading up to your appointment you should exfoliate often and moisturize your skin daily. This will ensure you have removed all dead skin cells and that your skin is hydrated and ready to absorb the tan. Also, hydrate from the inside by drinking plenty of water. Please do not use Dove soap or an oil-based scrub of any kind, or oil-based lotions the night before the appointment when prepping.  Leading up to your appointment the best is a glycerine bar soap as it leaves little residue on the skin.

Other Beauty Services

  • If you are getting waxed please schedule it 48 hours prior to your appointment to ensure there is no wax or residue left on the skin. This can block the solution from fully developing in those areas. Complete all other beauty services the day before your appointment (shaving, pedicures, manicures, facials, and massages).

Day Before Appointment

  • Exfoliate and shave at least 12 hours prior.  At the end of your shower lightly exfoliate a second time with just water and your exfoliating mitt to remove any soap residue. Pay extra attention to elbows, knees, feet, neck & and underarms when exfoliating. After this shower please leave your skin clean and free of any lotions or products.

  •  If you must shower within the 4 hours leading up to your appointment please keep it short and simple with no soap just lukewarm water for a minute or two as you want to keep your pores closed.

  • Please arrive to your appointment with clean skin that is free of lotion, make-up, deodorant, and perfume.

  • Wear or bring dark loose clothing to put on after your tan! You do not want tight clothing on your skin after the solution application. Tight clothing can rub against the skin causing blemishes or an uneven development.

Side Notes

Hormones

If you are PMSing, or on the first couple of days of your cycle there is a chance the tan can develop light or not at all this happens to 1 in 50 clients as the hormones can affect your skin's PH balance.

Sunburns

If you were recently sunburned it will affect the tan. Please reschedule your tan if you were recently burned. Sunburned skin is very dry and damaged and can cause the tan to develop blotchy or may peel even if you already peeled before.

AFTER CARE

Immediately after the appointment & First rinse

  • Stay away from any moisture or water until your first rinse. This means no sweating, no skin-to-skin contact, no washing hands, no doing any activities using water like doing dishes.

  • First rinse post application. You should shower in warm water avoiding a hot shower. Do not use any soap just rinse your body. Just rinse in the water using your hand to wipe your skin until the water runs clear at the bottom of your shower. Please don't pee in the shower as the ammonia can cause the tan to streak. When drying yourself after do not rub just pat yourself with the towel.

  • If you are seeing streaks it just means you probably rinsed too quickly and did not skim your whole body to remove the bronzer. Just jump back in the shower and rinse some more.

  • Do not use any lotions after your first rinse. After the tan has fully developed in the first 24 hours you can then moisturize daily (twice a day if possible) to maximize the life of the tan. Avoid oil-based lotions as they can break your tan down.

Maximize Your Tan

  • To keep your tan looking its best for as long as possible remember to take shorter shower times and avoid hot water. Avoid any exfoliation of the skin while showering. And only use soap on the parts that need.

  • Exercising within the first 36 hours after a spray is not recommended.

  • Sneakers, socks, and sweat will make the tan on your feet fade faster & and often unevenly.

  • Moisturize!! Hydration is your skin's best friend!   Use moisturizers that are spray tan approved and listed on my After Care Product Page. NO BABY OIL EVER.

  • Swimming with a tan is perfectly fine just try to rinse the chlorine off right after to avoid it breaking the tan down.

  • Use a SPF while out in the sun. Avoid the spray on sunscreen as the aerosols have a high alcohol content that will dry out your skin and tan. I always recommend an Oil-free lotion sunscreen of SPF30 or higher.
